NPL Group Community Fund Awards

Awarded in May 2017 through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund

An innovative project has developed a vacant space under the South Stand at Falkirk FC Stadium to create a community gym facility and new learning centre. The learning centre will be used to host employability programmes. The Gym will be used by sports clubs and teams throughout Forth Valley

The Gym enables sports clubs and teams to book slots for dedicated exercise and training. No membership is required. The facility is promoted via the Falkirk Football Community Foundation and football club social media sites, websites and match programmes. The gym is also used by all of our community football teams from U14 upwards (circa 150 players) and local high schools as part of their physical education curriculum. There is 24/7 access for all users

Learning Centre

There are 3 dedicated classrooms for hosting employability programmes. Historically these have involved young people aged 16-24, parents returning to work and adults lacking digital skills to access employment. The target is 80% of attendees in the main employability programme achieving a job or further education outcome. These facilities will radically improve the learning experience.

The project was enabled through an award of £299,500 by Avondale Environmental Limited, part of the NPL Group through both the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund and the Landfill Communities Fund.
